African
Penguin Awareness Day is on 7 October and we will celebrate it with our 15th
annual Penguin Festival at Simon's Town Navy Sports Field, in collaboration
with SANParks (Table Mountain National Park). This special day is dedicated to
raising worldwide awareness about the plight of the endangered African penguin,
the only penguin endemic to the African continent.
Join us at
10h00 on Seaforth Beach for an exclusive opportunity to witness the release of
African penguins – rehabilitated and ready to return back to the wild. Funds
raised at the festival will contribute to SANCCOB’s continued work to
rehabilitate and release seabirds.
After the
penguin release, we’ll all make our way to the Simon’s Town Navy Sports Field,
situated right next to Seaforth Beach, for the festivities to continue.
This year,
the festival offers:
• live music
• kids’ activities (mini rides,
inflatable obstacle course, face-painting, jumping castle, climbing wall)
• an edutainment marquee
• marine conservation exhibitions
• environmental talks
• a variety of food trucks &
boerewors rolls
• craft beer & wine tasting
There will be
prizes for best penguin outfits too.
A fun day for
all!
General
admission is free.
Entry into
the Kids Zone is R50 and parking will be available at the Seaforth Beach
parking area.
