BE PART OF NEDERBURG’S ‘HARVEST AT DUSK’ FESTIVAL Nederburg in Paarl is back with its annual ‘Harvest at Dusk’ festival, taking place this year on Saturday, 18 February. Set to entertain young and old, it offers an ideal opportunity for the whole family to satisfy their curiosity and learn from viticulturist Bennie Liebenberg how the 2017 wine grape harvest has been progressing. The event host will however be none other than Annetjie Hopkins, who has been with Nederburg for more than 30 years! Start with a glass of Nederburg’s refreshing Cuvée Brut on arrival, with a surprise snack. You will then be shown a selection of different grape varieties and given the chance to taste of the fresh grape must before it becomes wine.  As the sun sets, get your hands dirty by picking some fully ripened grapes in the vineyards. Mama Africa The Musical The production tells the story of activist and Grammy award-winning musician Miriam Makeba, outlining her role in bringing down apartheid, her varied musical career, betrayals, failed marriages and death of her only daughter while in exile. Set in Africa, the USA and Belgium, this musical is an inspirational and universal story that will appeal to multi-generational audiences worldwide. This production is in collaboration with ZM Makeba Trust and its wholly owned exclusive licensee Siyandisa Music (PTY) Ltd, the home of Miriam Makeba’s intellectual property.  Niyi Coker Jr., Distinguished Professor of Theater and Cinema Arts at UMSL, serves as both the production’s writer and director, while Thandi Swaartbooi and  Zakes Nkosi choreograph the musical. The Shortmarket Club  Luke Dale-Roberts of The Test Kitchen fame has partnered in a joint venture with his wife, Sandalene Dale-Roberts, his to chef Wesley Randles and manager Simon Widdison to open The Shortmarket Club in a heritage building just off vibey Bree Street. The excitement around the food and the venue is palpable, and The Shortmarket Club has already created a buzz in the Mother City ahead of its opening on 27 June. Dale-Roberts is justifiably proud of this new venture: “I’m extremely excited about what this will bring to the City Bowl,” he says.
