Dan Shout is a respected, sought-after musician and jazz educator based in Cape Town, South Africa. He is most renowned as a session saxophonist and for his seven-year stint with Johnny Clegg. Dan has performed in over 30 countries across five continents and has played and/or recorded with the likes Johnny Clegg, Winston Mankunku, Gordon Vernick, Maria Schneider, Frode Nymo, Paul Booth, Bruce Cassidy, Marcus Wyatt, AJ Brown, the Edinburgh Festival Big Band, The Blues Broers, Robin Auld and The Rudimentals to name a few.

Some of his career highlights include performing at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, the Wigan International Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague, Montreal Jazz Festival, Soccer World Cup in Germany, Rugby World Cup in France, Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Concert at Ellis Park, for the Prince & Princess of Monaco at the Monaco Opera House, Victoria Jazz Club in Oslo, for Bastille Day in Bastille, Paris, and for President Zuma’s Inauguration at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

In addition to performing, Dan is also a permanent part-time lecturer in jazz studies at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town.
