The Roundhouse Restaurant
Nestled in the glens of Table Mountain, The Roundhouse Restaurant is steeped in a rich history as old as the Cape itself. It is this very location that led to the building’s creation as a guardhouse in 1786 by the Dutch East India Company. With its sweeping views of Camps Bay and the expansive Atlantic, it was ideally situated to safeguard the Cape of Storms from attack.
Since then, the building has also functioned as a hotel, dance hall and, most famously, Lord Charles Somerset’s hunting lodge. This history of luxury and hospitality is still fundamental at The Roundhouse today, offering guests extraordinary cuisine, fine wine and spirits and exceptional service.
The outside dining area at The Roundhouse, The Rumbullion, eases up on the fine dining and offers guests a tapas-style menu, while unwinding in the sun on the lush lawns.
The entire property, or parts thereof, is also available for exclusivity bookings, tailored for you to create bespoke memories.
And so The Roundhouse invites you to come relive a time of romance and royalty, enveloped by the same breathtaking scenery that caused its initial inception.
The Roundhouse Chef offers contemporary dishes that combine European cuisine with a distinctly South African character. We are constantly looking to revive forgotten South African ingredients and recipes and incorporate them into the menu in a modern way.
The sourcing of ingredients is an extension of this locality – by actively sourcing the best artisanal produce that local producers have to offer, and using these ingredients in a style that is true to nature.
Every plate is created with the aim of layering flavours and textural experiences, while preserving the authenticity of flavour of the natural product.
Inside, the restaurant building can comfortably accommodate 60 guests for a formal sit-down event. For cocktail functions, the area can accommodate up to 80 guests. The terrace and upper-lawn area can also be made available for welcome drinks. There is also a Private Dining Room that can accommodate a maximum of 8 guests.
