John Vlismas
"The Good Racist" is back by popular demand and this time the show is
heading to Cape Town so make sure you get your tickets before they sell out!
John Vlismas
is well known for his outspoken and observational humour. His ability to
understand and comment on political, social and economic affairs has earned him
a broad and growing corporate client base, as well as invitations to perform in
England, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
John is
perhaps a cult figure, taking his particular brand of original, intellectual
and wildly risky comedy into everything he does, whether it is clean, complex
corporate appearances with highly tailored material, the no-holds-barred
material that ignites his public appearances, or the thought through outrage he
often presents on radio to provoke robust debate.
He holds the
rare distinction of being the only South African stand-up comic to have
performed at The Royal Albert Hall, The Hammersmith Apollo, The Lyric Theatre -
Shaftesbury lane and The Best of The Fest showcases in both the Montreal and
Melbourne Comedy Festivals. He has shared a line-up with Drew Carey, written
dialogue for Jerry Springer, and hosted Chris Rock at his club.
John won the
first ever “Stand Up Of The Year Award” at the South African Comedy Awards in
2007, and went on to co-found the Comic’s Choice Awards in 2011.
He has
written professionally for print, television, stage and radio and has appeared
in and co-produced several South African Films. He has worked as a television
and radio presenter, and recently agreed to perform Shakespeare at the Zoo. He
is proud to be one of the Comics asked to perform for the 46664 “It’s No Joke”
series of concert shows, and will be appearing in the Bafunny Bafunny 2011
Arena Tour shortly.
Few people
know that John is also a qualified scuba diving instructor.
Wherever he
performs during the rest of the week, be it an arena or a conference, you can
almost always find him on Sunday nights at the Comedy Underground – the club
night he began in Melville Johannesburg, where the beer is still warm and the
ticket price has not changed in ten years.
