Cell C Day Of
Races causes a stir amongst SA athletes
Celebrating its Cape Town debut at the Green Point
Athletics Stadium this coming Sunday, 11 September 2016, the Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok has attracted the attention of a number of South Africa’s elite
athletes.
The theme of
the event is ‘find your fit’. Entrants
can choose between five exciting start waves:
1. pretty fit, 2. pace makers (50 years+), 3. sole mates (pairs), 4.
young, fast & free and 5. anything goes.
The 6th and final wave, the elite race, will close off the
day’s racing and will be the source of much excitement.
Running for the CPUT Athletics Club, Siboniso Soldaka will be
gunning for gold in the men’s elite race.
“I train at the Green Point Athletics Stadium, specializing in the 3000m
steeple chase. I love the idea of a 5km
race and will definitely be going for the top spot on the podium.”
Soldaka will
face tough competition from fellow steeple chase athlete, Sibusiso
Madikizela. “The Cell C Day Of Races is
rejuvenating the sport of road running,” says Madikizela. “Unlike a marathon, everybody can complete a
5km run. My goal will be to win.”
In the women’s
race marathon runner, Candyce Hall will
be hoping for a 19 minute finishing time.
“My goal for every race is to enjoy the run. A 19 minute finish however would be a nice
bonus after a busy running weekend. The
distance is the perfect ‘gateway’ to get people hooked on running.”
“A 5km race is fast and short,” says 5000m
School SA’s gold medallist, Ebeth Marais.
“I will be aiming for a personal best time post injury. I am looking forward to the vibe, the
atmosphere and the awesome people.”
The Cell C Day Of Races has also attracted
the attention of South African biathlete, Beth Goode. “I enjoy running anything from 1.5km - 5km,”
says Goode. “I especially love 5km races
as they are a lot of fun. For me running
is all about having fun, so that will be my goal on the day.”

powered by Reebok supports the Unogwaja

broadly described under “education” but at its core is the willingness to
support, enable and empower those people in our country who have not given up
hope and who are already doing their best to make it better for themselves and
