Sausage Party, the first R-rated CG animated movie, is about a sausage leading a group of supermarket items on a quest to discover the truth about their existence - and what really happens when they are chosen to leave the grocery store.
Frank
(the sauage) is in love with a bun named Brenda. This “hotdog” couple
believe that they’re going to be “chosen” to leave the store together.
All the store products aim to get out of the store – it’s their version
of heaven – but one fateful day Frank overhears Honey Mustard who was
has actually out of the store, who says it’s not what everyone thinks –
it’s actually terrible, more akin to going to hell. They fall out of the
shopping cart instead of getting chosen, and Frank goes on a journey to
find out the truth about what actually happens
This critically-acclaimed satire boasts a stellar cast, including superstar comedians Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, who provide the voices for sausages Frank, Carl and Barry, and Kristen Wiig, who plays Brenda the Bun.
The voice cast also includes Salma Hayek, who plays Teresa the taco, Edward Norton (Sammy, the bagel), Paul Rudd (Darren, the store owner) and Danny McBride (honey mustard).
Sausage Party has proved a treat with critics, with the Guardian giving it 4 stars for providing a “surprisingly tasty supermarket sweep”. The New York Times gave it its Critics’ Pick, describing it as “fun pretty much all the way through”.
“It has the chaotic verve and the formal discipline that any good cartoon requires … I went in expecting an earnest critique of the industrial food system, or an impassioned plea for ethical vegetarianism. O.K., not really. But I certainly didn’t anticipate a movie so full of … thought,” read the review.
Sausage Party contains dark comedy and sex, so it is definitely not one for the kids. It is rated 16 DLSV.
